    Description

5 1/4" x 1 3/4" is this Strongly embossed "U.S. NAVY / MUSTARD" on two of the 8 panels. A rolled in lip and strong snap mold line across the base...a no doubt 1860's bottle. When the digging was great in Brooklyn we dug a very few of these right near the old historic Brooklyn Navy Yard. Both in 1860's like this one and O.P. examples in this and a larger size. I recently bought a box lot at an outdoor antique show in New York and noticed this one right away. The rolled up note was inside the bottle: "1860's MUSTARD JAR FROM GALLEY OF USS CAIRO WAR SHIP - OBTAINED FROM BILL MOORE". I don't know a Bill Moore and could not get any info. on the authenticity of the note. The bottle I do know and it's very scarce. Plenty of information on the excavation of this amazing find on the internet. The man running the antique show told me it was a consignment box lot.  It's under 1 Lb. so
It will be mailed by first class for .00 and  I cover for loss or damage on an immediate basis. Low opening bid as usual. Auctions are supposed to start low. I combine of course for postal savings.  Thanks for looking.
