General Lewis Wallace (1827-1905) was a Union general and Governor of New Mexico Territory. In 1859 he organized a militia in Crawfordsville Indiana and adopted the French Algerian Zouave Uniform. He is also know as the author in 1880 of Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ.
