Version 1.
Samantha's Clara Doll I (made from 1986 to 1991) Her face mold looks like the German Gotz dolls and is painted with very pale matte finish. The eyes are almost washed out. She has very thick long dark brown hair that went to her lower bottom. Her arms from Spine to fingertips are 2.25.” She is bendable at the hips so she can sit. The pink ribbon on the lace that circles the skirt is more of a hot pink and does not match the waistband or hair ribbon. Her shoes are a matte rose color.

Version 2.
Samantha's Clara Doll II (made from 1992 to 1995) Has a new face mold that more resembles the American girl faces and it is more brightly painted. When she was introduced in the 1992 catalog her hair is medium brown and less abundant and shorter barely waist length. Arms from Spine to fingertips are longer at 3.” She is no longer bendable at the hips. The ribbon around the bottom of the skirt now almost matches the waistband but the lace has looped edges.  Her shoes are now painted a shiner soft mauve.  This is the version that appears in the Burgundy Christmas pamphlets.

Samantha's Clara Doll III (made from 1996 to 2008) After 3 years of problems with the brown wig introduced in 1992, Mattel changed to a pure black-haired wig. The hair is long and very thick again.
