Description
You are bidding on arated as RARE
,
BOSTON
confectioner's flow-blue with paisley pattern, mini jar
. It
dates to the 1890's
.This jar is recorded in the
Jackson's reference book on American pot lids
and is
listed as # BJ 186
. This is a small jar and was probably used as a counter item with candies or small peppermints for the customers, or as a complimentary piece. I say this, as the jar is quite small, and would hardly have been large enough for a reasonable sized purchase!
The jar stands 1 1/2" tall (including lid) and has a diameter of 2 3/8".
For condition report please see "Item specifics/Seller notes" above and check out all the pics as they form an important part of the overall description.
A delightful American pot lid for the collector!
FOR VIEWERS WHO MAY NOT BE FAMILIAR WITH THESE DELIGHTFUL LITTLE LIDDED JARS....THEY WERE USED BETWEEN APPROX. 1840-1920 TO MARKET VARIOUS PRODUCTS WHICH CAME IN A PASTE FORM. AFTER WWI THEY BECAME OBSOLETE AS MORE MODERN AND ECONOMICAL FORMS OF PACKAGING REPLACED THEM. THE RECOVERY AND COLLECTING OF THESE OLD PIECES HAS BECOME A POPULAR, WORLD-WIDE HOBBY, AND A QUAINT REMINDER OF A BYGONE ERA. BE ASSURED, YOU ARE BIDDING ON A GENUINE AND AUTHENTIC PERIOD PIECE.
