    Description

    COMPORT, GREEN OPALINE GLASS BOWL, SILVER STEM , AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN.  1837.
    Height 4-3/4  inches, diameter 7-1/2 inches.
    Austro-Hungarian. 1837
    Pale green opaline glass bowl with everted rim decorated with yellow and white enamel and with a gilded border. The center is set with a silver denarius coin from the Roman republic with the head of L. Sempronius Pitio, c.148 BCE. A similar coin is in the coin collection at Harvard University.
    The silver stem is marked with the Austrian standard of 13 loth and the date 1837.
    Condition; Minor wear to yellow enamel on the rim.
