Up for your consideration is this authentic, rare first version of Pleasant Company 1988 American Girl Samantha's Tea Tin Lunchbox Set. It consists of a solid brass pail (slightly tarnished), half a watercress sandwich, a deviled egg, a perfect peach, a gingerbread cookie, and an embroidered cloth napkin. A pamphlet "Samantha's School Story", copyright 1991, is also included. Except for the tarnishing, the set is in mint condition in the original box. Aside from being well made and very appealing, the collectibility of this item is probably most related to the fact that in 1998 Pleasant Company was sold to Mattel, Inc. Like anything that is no longer made or available, the items produced by Pleasant Company rather than Mattel are very sought after by serious collectors, and therefore tend to be a great investment.
